Marcia Sawyer, a longtime Northern New Jersey resident, has always had close
connections to Philadelphia. Her mother grew up there and she has many family
members who still live in the area. Her love for Philly was sealed when she attended
the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from Penn, Marcia worked for
several direct marketing ad agencies in New York. After a career hiatus that
included living abroad and raising her two sons, Marcia returned to school to
become an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). While completing her OTA
degree Marcia was the lead author in an article about a teacher with disabilities that
was published in OT Practice, a trade publication. Marcia enjoys working with young
children as a COTA in a sensory gym and as an elementary school teacher’s aide. In
fact, her fourth grade class’ love of reading and writing last year helped inspire
Betsy‘s Philadelphia Adventure along with Marcia’s annual trips to Homecoming at
Penn. Marcia was thrilled to return to the 4 th grade class this school year for a special
book reading and discussion about the process of book writing.
